What Types of Swimming Pools Can Use UV Sterilizers

Note: UV sterilizer serves only as auxiliary disinfection equipment. It cannot fully replace chlorine‑based disinfectants. Required residual chlorine shall be maintained in pool water.

1. Indoor public swimming poolsStadium pools, club pools, hotel pools and training pools.Medium‑pressure UV is recommended with UV dose ≥60 mJ/cm². It decomposes chloramines, removes irritating chlorine smell and inactivates chlorine‑resistant pathogens such as cryptosporidium. Full‑flow treatment is required.

2. Private / villa pools (indoor & outdoor)Low bather load for domestic use. Low‑pressure UV is sufficient for general disinfection. Medium‑pressure UV is optional if chloramine removal is needed for indoor private pools.

3. Outdoor open‑air poolsPublic outdoor pools and landscape pools. UV dose ≥40 mJ/cm². Both low‑pressure and medium‑pressure UV are applicable. Effective pre‑filtration is necessary due to high turbidity caused by rain and sediment.

4. Hot spring pools & SPA poolsHigh water temperature and high organic load easily produce chloramines. Medium‑pressure UV is preferred for chloramine decomposition. Allow extra flow margin for high‑temperature operation. Anti‑scaling design and automatic sleeve cleaning are highly suggested.

5. Children’s splash pools & water‑park poolsHigh bather density with high infection risk. Medium‑pressure UV with dose ≥60 mJ/cm² and full‑flow treatment is recommended, working together with filtration and chlorine disinfection system.

Scenarios for caution

• Pools with long‑term turbidity＞2 NTU without proper pre‑filtration: poor UV transmittance leads to ineffective disinfection. Pre‑filtration is mandatory.

• Pools relying solely on UV without chlorine dosing: not compliant with pool sanitary standards, bacteria may regrow inside pipelines.
