Service life of UV electronic ballast

Ballast service life is much longer than UV lamps.

1. Economy domestic ballast: 30,000 hours, around 3~5 years

2. Mid-range ballast (with preheat soft-start for LPHO): 50,000 hours, around 5~8 years

3. High-end imported / potting industrial ballast (LPHO & MP): 50,000~80,000 hours, 8~10 years. Design life can exceed 10 years, warranty normally 1~3 years.

Medium pressure high power ballasts work under harsher conditions, so service life is shorter than LPHO ballasts of same grade.

Key factors affecting ballast life

1. Heat dissipation (most important): High ambient temperature and poor ventilation accelerate aging of capacitors and semiconductors.

2. Power supply quality: Voltage fluctuation, surge and harmonic damage the driver chip.

3. On-off cycles: Frequent start-stop reduces service life; preheat soft-start can reduce impact.

4. Humidity and dust: Moisture and condensation corrode PCB. Potting type has better protection.

5. Power matching: Mismatched ballast-lamp power causes overload and premature failure.

Maintenance suggestion: After replacing UV lamps 2~3 times, inspect or replace the ballast.
