If the rated power is identical, the power consumption of the whole set (lamp + ballast) is roughly similar.
Energy conversion efficiency differs greatly:
Low-pressure lamp: 30%~40% electricity converted into effective 254 nm UVC.
Medium-pressure lamp: only 10%~20% electricity converted into germicidal UVC; most energy turns into heat.
To achieve the same disinfection dose:
Low-pressure UV system consumes less electricity per ton of water.
Medium-pressure UV has higher energy consumption, adopted for broad-spectrum demand such as TOC removal, chloramine decomposition and AOP process, not for energy saving.
