How to Judge Whether the Ballast Matches the UV Lamp

Check nameplate parameters (primary method)

Collect data from lamp and ballast nameplates: lamp type (low-pressure / medium-pressure), rated power, operating current, single-ended / double-ended wiring.

Matching requirements:

Identical rated power;

Consistent lamp type: low-pressure lamp cannot use medium-pressure ballast and vice versa;

Matching wiring structure (single-ended or double-ended).

2. On-site power-on test

Normal matching performance

The lamp ignites steadily at once without flickering; moderate temperature rise; no frequent protection shutdown, no abnormal noise.

Mismatch symptoms

Ballast power > lamp power

Lamp lights up but overheats; tube ends blacken rapidly; accelerated light decay.

Ballast power < lamp power

Hard ignition, continuous flickering; ballast overheats quickly and triggers protection frequently.

3. Instrument verification

Measure actual lamp operating current:

Current close to rated value → well matched

Current higher than rated → overrated ballast

Current lower and unstable → underrated ballast

4. Hidden matching requirements

Medium-pressure UV system adopts one ballast for one lamp only.

Starting voltage and maximum allowable cable length shall also comply with specifications.

Standard judgment checklist

Consistent nameplate specifications

Stable ignition without flicker during operation

Measured operating current meets lamp rating

All three conditions satisfied = properly matched.
