Measure the surface temperature after 2+ hours of full-load operation. Good ballast shell ≤70℃; over 85℃ indicates poor cooling.
Normal: temperature rises quickly then stabilizes. Abnormal: temperature keeps rising continuously.
Good heat dissipation: stable UV output, no frequent thermal trip. Poor heat dissipation: power derating, frequent over-temperature alarm, high failure rate in hot ambient.
Check housing material (aluminum preferred), fin structure, ventilation clearance and dust accumulation.
Thermal imaging can detect hidden hot spots inside the ballast.
Under identical conditions, ballasts with poor heat dissipation have shorter service life.
