Development Trends of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs)

  • Green and low-carbon transformation driven by renewable energy. UV-LED light sources gradually replace traditional mercury UV lamps to cut energy consumption and mercury pollution. Visible-light photocatalysts and solar-powered AOP systems are widely studied to reduce power reliance. Metal-free carbon-based catalysts are developed to avoid secondary pollution caused by metal leaching.

  • Intelligent and digital precise operation control. Online water quality sensors cooperate with AI and PLC automatic control to adjust oxidant dosage and UV intensity in real time. Digital twin and remote maintenance realize unattended stable operation.

  • Targeted removal of emerging micro-pollutants including algal toxins, antibiotics, pesticides, endocrine disruptors and microplastics. AOPs have become standard advanced treatment units in municipal water plants and are widely applied in water reuse projects.

  • Cost reduction and large-scale engineering promotion. Optimized reactor fluid design and catalyst recycling lower energy and chemical costs, accelerating the industrial popularization of AOP technology.
