Design flow rate (primary factor)Higher water flow requires higher total UV dose and total UV power, then split to each lamp. Unit: m³/h.
Target UV disinfection doseDose requirement (mJ/cm²) depends on target microorganisms (bacteria, virus, crypto, giardia) and applicable standards. Drinking water, wastewater, swimming pool and aquaculture have different dose levels.
Influent water qualityUV transmittance (UVT): Low UVT means strong UV absorption by water, higher lamp power is required. Turbidity, iron and suspended solids also reduce effective UV radiation.
Reactor chamber dimensionThe length and diameter of UV reactor limit the maximum lamp length, which directly decides rated lamp power. Small vessels can only adopt multiple low/medium power lamps.
Lamp typeLow pressure standard, Low Pressure High Output (LPHO), medium pressure lamps have different power ranges. LPHO lamps have higher power per unit, medium pressure lamps have much higher single power.
UV output efficiencySelect based on 254nm effective UV output power instead of electrical consumption power.
Operation mode24-hour continuous operation or frequent start-stop affects lamp type and power selection.
Industry standards & safety marginApply required national/international standards, normally 1.2~1.5 safety factor for redundancy.
Logic: Calculate total required UV output → match flow, water quality & dose → select single lamp power according to reactor geometry.
