Disadvantages
High investment and operating costs (high chemical and power consumption)
Relatively complex equipment with high maintenance requirements
Greatly affected by water quality (turbidity and hardness reduce efficiency)
Some processes produce by-products or are highly corrosive
Not economical when used alone; usually only for advanced treatment
