Both technologies inactivate microorganisms by damaging microbial DNA/RNA, but differ significantly in spectral output, photon energy and oxidation capability.
Low‑Pressure High‑Output (LPHO) UV
Discharge at low mercury vapor pressure. Emits almost monochromatic UV at 253.7 nm.
Disinfection 253.7 nm directly damages microbial DNA / RNA to stop reproduction.
No advanced oxidation effect. Cannot decompose chloramines or organic contaminants. Only for disinfection purpose.
Medium‑Pressure UV
Operates at high mercury vapor pressure at 600‑800 °C. Produces continuous broad‑band spectrum 180‑400 nm, covering UVC, UVB and UVA.
Dual functions
253.7 nm component inactivate microorganisms same as LPHO.
Short‑wave UVC 185 nm photolyse water and hypochlorite to generate hydroxyl radicals for AOP advanced oxidation.
Capable of decomposing chloramines and partial organics, achieving disinfection plus oxidative degradation.
Key Summary
LPHO narrow spectrum, pure disinfection only.
MPUV broad spectrum, disinfection + AOP oxidation for chloramine removal.
